What I read recently - Heaven is here

One soul's steps into poetry and photography

By Hannah Imogen Jones

Recently I was lucky enough to be sent this beautifully written book which is a 50/50 mix of stunning photography and poetry. The book it's self is a top quality hard back with 420 pages to keep you captivated. I'm not a huge poetry fan myself but I do love a quick flick through now and again, and as my daughter has recently begun getting quite into poetry I decided to give it ago too. I am so glad I gave this book a chance because it has given me complete turn around on my thought's on poetry in general since the good old days at secondary school when I just loathed it. What I love about this book in particular is you don't need much time to read it, and as a mum of four I don't have much!. You can just pick the book up when you have a spare five minutes and indulge in a quick read through and quick escape to somewhere different through the gorgeous images. Every one in my house has picked the book up at some point and had a quick read through the poems at different times which I love as even a quick read through is highly beneficial especially for the kids.

The Blurb

I've searched so long
Searched far and wide
To find the light
I've held inside
My heart
My mind
My glowing soul
As on this path
I've travelled forth
Ever singing my sweet song
Trusting the light that guides me along.
I thanked my stars I've understood
The message that lay at my feet
The rainbow the arched o'er my way
The meaning of each newborn day
And as I pray
And sunlight splays
Through cracks in leaves to light my way
I smile and close m eyes and say
Thank you
Heaven Is In Here

Sleep, Sweet Child

As a mother my favourite poem in the book is Sleep, sweet child and my children love me reading it to them before bed.

Sleep, sweet child
And have sweet dreams .
Tomorrow's a world away
It seems
You'll rise up fresh
And wake anew
To smile ahead
At pastures new.

Some say that when
A child starts dreaming
The elves and fairies
start believing
And come out from their magic homes
To soft upon the planet roam...

They kiss the sleeping child in bed
They hold her hand
Caress his head
So when that child
Awakes at dawn
They're filled with love
To carry on.

So, sleep, sweet child
And have sweet dreams.
Tomorrow's a world away
It seems
You'll rise up fresh
And awake anew
To smile ahead
At pastures new.
