As a family with a big love of reading we were really excited to get our hands on a copy of the second instalment of The Luck Uglies - Dishonour Among Thieves written by Paul Durham . The book was published in March 2015. The books recommended age is 9+ so was immediately handed over to our eldest daughter Eleesha who will be ten this year to have a read and see how she got on with it.

Paul Durham

Firstly before I talk about the book who is Paul Durham? Paul Durham was raised in Massachusetts and attended college and law school in Boston. He now lives in Exeter, New Hampshire, with his wife, two daughters and an enormous, bushy creature the local animal shelter identified as a cat. He writes in an abandoned chicken coop at the edge of a swamp and keeps a tiny porcelain frog in his pocket for good luck.

The Luck Uglies - Dishonour Among Thieves Blurb

Being the daughter of the deadliest outlaw alive has its problem...

The Luck uglies are the most dangerous men Riley O'Chanter has ever met - and her father, Harmless is their leader. Now Rye herself has been declared a wanted criminal and forced into hiding on the remote Isle of Pest -a mysterious place full of dark legends, smugglers and...sheep.

Meanwhile, a deadly battle is raging for control of the Luck Uglies and Rye must rally a band of smugglers and outlaws to take on the fierce of enemies: like father, like daughter.

The nitty gritty... did we like it??

At first glance I did worry that the book may be too complex for a nine year old (the recommend age 9 years +) but I was completely wrong she was very comfortable with the fantasy style village speak and was able to read and fully understand the book. She was actually gripped with this book as was I and we thoroughly enjoyed Rye's adventure discovering all about her father Harmless and their battle against the very creepy outlaw Slinister Varlet.

Overall we have to say the book was a great read and we would recommend it to any pre teen or tween age kids they would love it and with it being a trilogy would make a nice little collection.
